Terms of business
These are the terms on which we value and buy gold from you. They apply from the moment you ask us for a valuation. Please read the section on sending items in, because that is where the money and the risk actually sit.
Last updated: 13 September 2026
01Who these terms are between
They are between you and James Quinn Acquisitions Limited, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 12123379, trading as WeBuyBullion. Where we say we, us or our, we mean that company. Where we say you, we mean the person selling, who must be aged 18 or over.
You can contact us about anything in these terms at info@webuybullion.co.uk.
02Valuations are free, and they commit you to nothing
We do not charge for a valuation, and asking for one does not oblige you to sell. You may stop at any point, including after we already have your items, up until you accept a final offer.
There is an important difference between the two figures we give you:
- An indicative valuation
- The figure we give over the telephone or by email. It is based on what you have told us and on the gold price at that moment. It is an estimate and not an offer, and it is not binding on either of us.
- A final offer
- The figure we put in writing after we have weighed and tested your items ourselves. This is the only figure that can be accepted, and it is the one you are paid.
A final offer may be higher or lower than the indicative one. It is usually different, because the weight and fineness we measure are rarely exactly what was described, and because the gold price moves. We will tell you when it comes out higher just as readily as when it comes out lower.
Because the gold price moves every day, a final offer stays open until 5pm on the next working day after we send it. If you have not accepted by then, we will either make you a fresh offer at the current price or return your items free, whichever you prefer.
03Sending your items to us
If you are happy with the indicative figure, we will send you a pre-paid, tracked and insured pack.
- Hand the pack in over a Post Office counter and keep the receipt. Cover starts when the pack is scanned in. A pack put into a postbox is not scanned, and is not covered.
- We set the insured amount for your pack from what you tell us you are sending. If you add anything, or what you are sending is worth more than you told us, tell us before you send it. We will change the cover, split it across more than one pack or arrange a different collection.
- Send only the items you have described to us, and pack them so they cannot move or be felt through the packaging.
- Keep the tracking number. You can follow the pack the whole way.
If a pack is lost or damaged in transit after being sent as described above, the carrier's insurance applies up to the insured amount for that pack, and we will make the claim for you. Our liability for items in transit is limited to that cover, which is why you must tell us before sending more than you told us you would.
04Who owns your items, and who carries the risk
Your items remain yours throughout. Ownership passes to us only when you accept our final offer and we send the payment. Up to that point they are your property, held by us for the purpose of valuing them, and you can ask for them back.
While your items are in transit, the risk is covered by the carrier's insurance as described above. From the moment they reach us until they leave us again, they are held at our risk.
05What we do when your items arrive
- We open the pack and record what was in it.
- We weigh each item and test its fineness. Testing is non-destructive. Nothing is cut, filed, scratched or acid-tested.
- Where an item contains stones or non-metal parts, we remove them, weigh the metal alone, and return the stones to you at our cost. We do not buy stones and we place no value on them.
- We send you the weights, the test readings, the gold price used, the rate applied and the resulting final offer, in writing.
06If you accept
We pay by bank transfer to an account in your own name. We do not pay by cheque or in cash.
If you accept by 3pm on a working day, we pay you that same day. If you accept after 3pm, or on a weekend or bank holiday, we pay you on the next working day. A working day is Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays in England. Payment can only be made once your identity checks are complete.
We cannot pay a third party, or an account in a different name from the seller. That is part of our anti-money-laundering procedures, and we do not make exceptions.
07If you decline
You may decline the final offer for any reason, or for none. You do not need to explain. We will return everything to you by insured post at our own expense, to the address we hold for you. There is no fee for declining and no minimum.
We aim to post your items back within two working days of your decision. If a return comes back to us undelivered, we keep your items safe and contact you by telephone and email to arrange another delivery.
08What you are confirming when you sell to us
By sending items to us you confirm that:
- You own them, or you are legally entitled to sell them on behalf of whoever does.
- They are not subject to any loan, pledge, charge or other person's claim.
- You are 18 or over.
- The information you have given us about the items and about yourself is true.
We will ask for photographic identification and proof of address before we can pay you, and we will ask how the items came to be yours. These checks apply to everyone and we cannot waive them. If you are selling on behalf of an estate we will ask for the paperwork that shows you are entitled to.
09Items we do not buy
- Watch movements. We buy the gold in a case or bracelet, not the working watch.
- Silver, platinum and palladium.
- Loose diamonds and other stones.
- Costume jewellery, and gold plate on base metal, marked GP, EPNS, HGE or 1/20.
- Anything we are not satisfied you are entitled to sell.
If items we do not buy arrive with us, we will return them to you at our cost along with anything else you decline.
10Stolen goods and reporting obligations
If we have reasonable grounds to believe items are stolen, we may keep them, report the matter to the police, and decline to go ahead. We are also required by law, in certain circumstances, to make a report to the National Crime Agency, and the law restricts what we are allowed to tell you about such a report.
11If we get something wrong
If we make an error in a weight, a test reading or a calculation and it means we offered you too little, we will correct it and pay you the difference, whether or not you have already been paid. If an obvious error meant we offered far more than the items are worth, we will tell you before any payment is made and give you the choice of a corrected offer or a free return.
12Our liability
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
13Complaints
If something has gone wrong, email us at info@webuybullion.co.uk. Tell us what happened and what you would like us to do, and quote your reference if you have one.
We will acknowledge your complaint within two working days and aim to give you a full answer within 14 days. If you are not happy with our answer, you can get free, independent advice from the Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 0808 223 1133.
14General
We may change these terms, but the terms that apply to your transaction are the ones published when you asked for your valuation. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest continue to apply.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in your own country's courts.
