Sell your gold.
We show our working.
We buy gold: coins, bullion, jewellery and scrap. Most buyers give you a number; we give you the sum behind it: the spot price, your weight, the fineness we measured and our rate: 90–98% of the gold value. Check it yourself. Then decide.

Steps 1 and 2 are arithmetic you can check yourself. Steps 3 and 4 need today’s gold price and our rate for your category, and we do those with you on the phone.
Finish the sum
This is the gold content. Some coins are worth more than that to a collector, and we check for it. The figure we confirm in writing comes from the weight and the fineness we measure ourselves.
II01–05The process
Five steps, and you can stop at any of them
Nothing is committed until you accept a written offer. Every step before that is free, including changing your mind after we already have your gold.
Start with a valuation01
Tell us what you have
Call us, or email photographs. Either works.
On the phone we will ask what it is, roughly what it weighs and what any hallmark says. If it is easier to photograph it than describe it, send pictures instead. A clear shot of the item and one of the hallmark is usually enough.
No appointment, no queue, no one coming to your house.
02
We value it, out loud
You get a figure and the sum behind it.
We work from the live spot price, your weight and the fineness, and we tell you every part of the calculation rather than just the answer. If the hallmark is unclear we will give you a range and confirm it once we have tested it.
Free, and there is no obligation at any point.
03
Send it in, insured
Only if you are happy with the figure.
We email you a pre-paid, tracked and insured pack. Put your items in, seal it, and hand it in over a Post Office counter. Get the receipt, and you are covered door to door from that moment.
Nothing is committed. You can still say no at the end.
04
Tested and confirmed
Same day it lands with us.
Everything is weighed and XRF-tested. No cutting, no acid, no damage. We send you the readings, the weights and the final offer in writing, and we tell you if it came out higher than the phone estimate as readily as if it came out lower.
Stones are removed and returned to you at our cost.
05
Accept, and get paid
Bank transfer the same working day.
Say yes and the money goes out by faster payment, usually within the hour. Say no and we post everything back to you, insured, at our expense. No fee, no argument, no pressure.
Declining costs you nothing. That is the whole point of it.
IIICOVERUndertakings
Posting gold to someone you have never met
It is a reasonable thing to be uneasy about, and a padlock icon does not fix it. What fixes it is knowing exactly where the cover starts, what happens to your items when they arrive, and what it costs you to walk away. So here is all three, in writing.
IIn transit
Insured for what you send
Every pack we send is pre-paid, tracked and insured door to door. We set the cover on each pack from what you tell us you are sending, and it runs from the moment the pack is scanned in at the Post Office counter until it reaches us.
- Pre-paid, tracked pack sent to you by email
- Cover starts when it is scanned at the counter
- Hand it over the counter, never a postbox
IIOn arrival
XRF spectrometry
Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence gives an exact fineness reading without cutting, filing or acid-testing your items. You get a photograph of the reading with your offer.
- Nothing is cut, filed or acid-tested
- You get the readings and the weights in writing
- Stones removed and returned at our cost
IIIIf you say no
Returned free, no questions
You can decline the final offer for any reason, or for none. We post everything back to you insured and we pay for it. There is no fee, no minimum and no follow-up call trying to change your mind.
- Return postage at our expense
- No fee for declining
- Paid same working day if you accept

Leave it with us and we will call you back
You do not need to know what it is, what it weighs or what it is worth. That is our job. Give us a name and a number and we will do the rest.
FORM 1

Tell us what you have
We will call you back with a figure and the working behind it. Free, and there is no obligation to sell.
VAUWhat we look for
Coins first, and bars
of any size.
These are the three we buy most of, and the three we are quickest on. Ring us with one of these in your hand and you will have a figure before the call is over.

Sovereigns
7.32 g of fine gold
Full and half, any year, any monarch, and we do not mind if they are loose in a tin or still in the presentation case.

Britannias
31.10 g of fine gold
One ounce and the fractional sizes. Krugerrands, Maples, Eagles and Nuggets are all bought on the same basis.

Bars
1 g to 1 kg
Minted or cast, any refiner. Bring the assay card if you still have it, though a bar is worth the same without one.
We buy a great deal more than these three: jewellery hallmarked or not, broken chain, scrap, and coins from any country. The full schedule, and the short list of things we turn down, is below.
Everything we buyVIITEMSWhat we take
If it has gold in it, we are interested
Coins are what we know best, though gold is gold: hallmarked or not, whole or broken, one ring or a whole estate. Below is what we take and what we turn down, in enough detail that you should not have to ring and ask.
Full list, and what we cannot takeQuick reference
Common coins, by fine gold
Gross is what it weighs on scales. Fine is the pure gold inside it, and that is what a valuation is based on.
| Coin | Gross | Fine |
|---|---|---|
| Full sovereign | 7.98 g | 7.32 g |
| Half sovereign | 3.99 g | 3.66 g |
| Britannia (1oz) | 31.10 g | 31.10 g |
| Krugerrand (1oz) | 33.93 g | 31.10 g |
| Maple Leaf (1oz) | 31.10 g | 31.10 g |
A Krugerrand outweighs a Britannia by nearly three grams and holds exactly the same gold. The difference is copper. It is worth the same to you either way.
- 01Gold coinsWhat we know best, and what we most want to see.
- Dates and mint marks checked first, in case the coin is worth more than its metal
- Do not clean them. A cleaned coin can be worth less than the dirt ever was
- Proof sets and boxed coins: send the case and the paperwork, both can add to the price
- Graded coins in NGC or PCGS holders: priced on what that coin sells for in that grade, not on its gold weight
- Coins mounted as pendants: the coin and the mount priced separately
- Worn or scratched: circulation does not change the gold inside
- 02Gold jewellery9ct to 24ct, hallmarked or not.
- Worn or illegible hallmarks: the test decides what it is, not the stamp
- Broken chains and single earrings: the same rate per gram as whole pieces
- Unmarked pieces: we test them
- Stones removed and returned to you
- Antique or signed pieces checked for value beyond the gold before anything is melted
- 03Gold bullionBought on fine gold content.
- Bars without their certificate or original packaging: tested, and paid the same
- If a bar tests as anything other than what it claims, we tell you and post it back free
- 04Other gold itemsThe things people are least sure are worth sending.
- Gold-filled and rolled gold: tested, then priced honestly
- Odd findings, clasps and sweepings: send them as one parcel and we weigh the lot
- 05What we don't buyWe would rather tell you now than waste your postage.
- Watches as watches. We buy the gold case, not the movement, so if it is worth more whole, sell it as a watch
- Silver, platinum and palladium. Gold only, for now
- Diamonds and coloured stones. We take them out and send them back, but we do not buy them
- Costume jewellery, and gold plate on base metal marked GP, EPNS, HGE or 1/20. There is not enough gold in them to cover the postage
VIIPF70Proof and graded
A proof coin is not
scrap gold.
Proof and graded coins usually sell for more than the gold inside them. Most buyers quote spot anyway, or under it, which is why somebody who paid a premium for a coin often feels stuck with it. We price yours against what it actually sells for.
Read us the certification number from the label, or send a photograph of it, and we will come back with a figure for that exact coin.

- 01Graded proofs
- NGC and PCGS holders, PF 70 and PF 69. Third party verified, so we can price yours against recent sales of the same coin in the same grade.
- 02Loose proofs
- In the original presentation box with the Royal Mint certificate. Send both. The same coin without them fetches less.
- 03Graded bullion coins
- MS 70 and MS 69 as well. The premium is smaller than on proofs, and on some issues there is none, which we will tell you.
- 04How we get to a figure
- We offer against what your coin has recently sold for in your grade, not against what it weighs.
Is it safe to post gold to you?
It is insured door to door, and the cover starts the moment the packet is scanned in at a Post Office counter, which is why we ask you to hand it over the counter and keep the receipt rather than drop it in a postbox. The pack we send is pre-paid and tracked, so you can watch it move. We set the cover on each pack from what you tell us you are sending, so if you add anything or it turns out to be worth more, tell us before you post it and we will adjust the cover, split it across two packs or arrange a courier collection.
What if I change my mind after I have sent it?
You get everything back, posted insured, at our expense. There is no fee for declining and no minimum. You are not committed at any point before you accept the final written offer: not when you call, not when you post it, not when we have tested it.
How do I know the valuation is fair?
Because we show you the arithmetic rather than just the answer. Every offer states the spot price we used, the weight we measured, the fineness the test returned and the rate we pay on that category. You can check the sum yourself, and you can check the spot price against any public source. If a buyer will not show you those four numbers, that is worth noticing.
Will testing damage my items?
No. XRF testing is non-destructive. It reads the composition with X-rays and leaves no mark. We do not file, cut, scratch or acid-test anything. If a piece has stones in it we remove them, return them to you separately, and we do not charge for that.
What do I need to provide?
Photo ID and proof of address, because we verify the identity of everyone we buy from and keep a record of every transaction. A passport or driving licence plus a recent utility bill or bank statement covers it. We will also ask how the items came to you. That is part of our anti-money-laundering checks, not nosiness.
Find out what it is worth.
Then decide, or don’t.
A valuation costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Call and we will work through the sum with you on the phone, or email photographs and we aim to come back to you within 48 hours.
- Free valuation, no obligation to sell
- Insured postage both ways
- Non-destructive testing, readings shared
- Same-day bank transfer on acceptance
